Module 4

Victor Chavez Professor Andrews Research Methods 9/25/2020 1 st draft of Literature review People today consume vast amounts of news in a short amount of time, using social media as their preferred news outlet. As various authors who did research on the subject point out “In case of polarizing topics like politics, where multiple competing perspectives exist, the political bias in the top search results can play a significant role in shaping public opinion towards (or away from) certain perspectives” (Kulshresta, Eslami, Messias, Zafar, Gosh, Gummadi & Karahalios, 2019). When people look up news to see what is going on with the world around them, there is a bias in the algorithm itself, when they look for news that people are not even aware, shaping their opinion before they read the whole story; segregating people on their political views, and making them unable to have a conversation with people that have a different political opinions from them. The purpose of this review ...

Module 3

Module 3 Using the NDNU library database typed social media there was too much information, and it was broad, I had to think about what I wanted to study about social media. Change my search term to bias in social media, and I got these references. Biaswatch: A lightweight system for discovering and tracking topic-sensitive opinion bias in social media. Discovering, assessing, mitigating data bias in social media and web search. Social media news communities: gatekeeping, coverage, and statement bias. Quantifying search bias: investigating sources of bias for political searches in social media. Effects of editorial media bias perception and media trust on the use of traditional, citizen, and social media news.  If I need to increase the size of my references, I will use google scholar to help me find it, as it is a good search engine to use.  Still looking for unpublished journals, as of right now I haven't found any unpublished journals. Looking at the social bias that...

Research Topic

As of right now my research topic will have a focus on the media, like, I stated earlier in my conversation with my friend. I want to understand how the media operates in the 21 st century, and why it has changed over the last couple of years, where they decide to sensationalize the news, and not properly fact check their sources. Media, nowadays, worries more about ratings than actual journalism; my goal is to understand that shift in thinking. Though, I think that I have to define what I mean when I say the "media", as their are multiple types of media that we as a culture consume on a daily basis. I want my focus on the media to be about... looking at major news stations like CNN and Fox(will add more news stations).

By doing so the author has ensured that his research into media in Europe is not focused on just one country. D. No. I did not notice any flaws. E. Introduction

Hello everyone, My name is Victor Chavez and I am History Major at NDNU. I have lived in the Bay Area for about 27 years now, and I love the environment, that this area has provided for me.  Tough with the pandemic going around right now, it has limited what kind of activities I can do outdoors. Which at times can be frustrating, and difficult to adapt too this change in regulations. This summer was especially difficult, as me and my friends planned several things to do over the summer, that had to be cancelled or changed.  I have always had an interest in history, as it is one of my favorite subjects to study and learn more about. Over the summer, I had to take a variety of classes to meet my graduation plan for NDNU, in taking those classes I found physical geography and philosophy helpful in my understanding of history. I am looking forward to this class, as I am planning on attending graduate school, this class will help me be successful there.
